One of the fastest sprinters on the planet, winner of the 100 meter Olympic trials for the US, failed a THC test after the race and is barred from competing. How absurd!
Sha’Carrie Richardson’s biological mother passed away shortly before the race and she used cannabis to cope, and she owns it, “I’m Human.”
The absurdity is that cannabis doesn’t enhance performance, but its banned-substance status is rooted in old-school thinking. Today, many professional leagues are relaxing their hard-line approach, including the NFL and NBA.
Track and Field will eventually do so as well, but that doesn’t help right the wrong done to Sha’Carrie today. Change needs to happen now.
